It’s exciting that you’re about to meet a family for the first time. Of course they are super curious about you and your experience with children.
Take the time to tell about your experience with kids and share your favorite moments. Such as a special bedtime-ritual or an important conversation you’ve had and never forgot.
Tip 2: Make it personal
Try to find an experience you really enjoyed and take the time to tell this story. If you have a picture or a souvenir from that moment this would even be better and makes your story more personal!
Do you have a skill that will make you stand out? Such as driving experience with kids, providing swimming lessons, or leading arts and crafts? Share it in your video to show why you would make a great au pair for a family.
Tip 3: Stay close to yourself
It’s important that you try to express yourself as you are. So don’t overact or try to do things you would normally wouldn’t do.
Share stories about your life, friends and family. Or share you biggest passion (beside kids) so that the host family really gets an idea of who you are. Share your values around sharing a living space as well so the host family can see if you will align with their hopes regarding house rules.
Tip 4: Enthusiasm is important
After all the talking it’s time to take some action! Grab the camera and take it on a tour; through your house, garden or neighborhood so that the host family can see where you are from and what you like.
For example; you love flowers? Tell this in the video and don’t be surprised if there are flowers when you arrive in your new au pair bedroom.
A good start is the beginning of an amazing relationship
Take a good look at your introduction video. Are you really as enthusiastic and honest as you would like to be? And is the video appealing for the family? Your video should be between 1 and 3 minutes. Below you will find an example of a good introduction video
Think about this: would you choose yourself as an au pair after seeing your introduction video? Yes? Nice, you did a good job! No? Try again, you can do this!
Lots of au pair fun!
